on your last point I definitely see that, I do think by 2012 or 2013 whenever he was done with Nike, he. should have made the jump independently. especially with the advent of social media becoming so ubiquitous in our culture/ his general celebrity he could've pulled it off

    but hey

maybe he should’ve! he did say later on he wished he did so youre probably right!

oh for sure it encouraged it lol

i dont think he was ever planning on doing it long term, hes been pretty consistent that he wanted high fashion at cheap prices for peopel for a long time.

i def dont think he planned to lose adidas but i think he expected it to branch into things like the gap collab where he could put things cheaply. adidas itself also pretty cheap compared to to high fashion houses

im not in fashion industry either, but i would imagine back in like 2007sh when he wanted to break into fashion, there was loads of knowledge being gatekept by these huge fashion houses, he needed or wanted access to.

It also wouldn't have been the first time a rapper started creating a clothing brand so idk how limited the possibility was

The thing that would have separated his from theirs was the fact that his mind was behind it, not the fact that he has connections to adidas or gap or Balenciaga or any of that

his mind being behind it was def 90% of it. and lots of musicians have tried to make fashion brands.

but i do think that the actual knowledge of how to make clothes, the way they make it in these european fashion houses, which was a big part of his inspiration, was definetly gatekept from black people in america at the time when he started fashion seriously
