his motto when talk talk switched to post rock was better 1 note than 2 and better 0 notes that 1. he perfected that on his self titled.
funnily, Drake has also said really similar things about his music.
and a lot of classical visual artists have said the same thing about brushstrokes in their paintings.its not about just being minimalist like the mainstream aethestic that big corpos use, but whether what you put there serves the greater purpose, is clear and adds more than it detracts.
you can have pretty intricate and maximalist sounding or looking work, while still using this minimalist philosophy, it just depends on what the point of the work is.
