L perception of steely dan fanbase and musicians they played with
fusion is just a soft form of jazz though
99% of fusion guys weren't good enough to do jazz full time so they just borrowed some of the harmonic language and song forms
one of those redundant genres
and this is who yall was gassing up
MJ is dead??? Are you dumb lmao
very very very few artists are touching Steely Dan's 7 album prime run
Also 40-50 years out of his prime lmao
MJ debuted in 1943 bro
he would've prevented ww2 if he had 5 mins with adolf
nobody could compare to the SMOOTH CRIMINAL
Also 40-50 years out of his prime lmao

Steely Dan did what Michael Jackson thought he was doing.

MJ liked tchaikovsky and debussy so he's real enough to me damn it
Comparing a dead artist whose prime and career spanned from 60’s- 90’s whose number 2 on YouTube to a modern living artist is dumb lol
MJ liked tchaikovsky and debussy so he's real enough to me damn it
i love debussy so much

i mean steely dan isnt fusion tho
and they have real deal jazz guys like Wayne Shorter playing with them that you cant knock (although yeah he did fusion in 70s)
way better to approach Steely Dan as pop rock music with jazz influence because thats what it is, never hear them mentioned alongside any fusion artists
disagree about fusion in general though so strongly
at least for the time it was developing and peaking in late 60s-70s, you might have a point for later jazz fusion which kinda took over and partially corrupted jazz purity or whtaever
