And this is how Walt was able to get Mickey into all those wacky poses ?
i would bet my life on it
EVERYONE does it? The guy that made courage the cowardly dog drew the boxes?
It must be done..... I'll buy an extra sketchbook for ugly stupid stuff....
And this is how Walt was able to get Mickey into all those wacky poses ?
it was crucial component of it.
they both had it internalized so after they knew how it worked and could eyeball the poses at different rotations.

he did yes

Well they don't make it clear you will have to spend weeks drawing nasty boxes when you are getting into cartooning so i think that's a little unfair don't u ?

Stanky this Newfoundian is telling me heartbreaking news that I must spend entire weeks drawing boxes to be able to properly draw cartoon rabbits

very unfair. they make it look so simple and easy and then behind it they pull the rug from underneath you.
for simple characters theyre mostly doing it internalized. but the boxes will show you how to rotate objects in 3d (even if its a 2d character it helps to go from front on, 3/4 turn etc).
show you how to make depth for backrounds, show you whether youre looking down or up at a character. lots of helpful stuff!
Dam this is actually beautiful as s***

I need to find a written guide of some sort I can't follow videos for that type of thing
There is this big lake near me and I love going there and just walking 5 miles with old country music on my headphones

ill send you one!
also just so u cns visualize it, this is essentially what youll be doing
start with this
then you do this with them
then youll be able to do this for your characters
once you get to the second part it becomes a lot of fun!

Oh wow they are 3d
This is exactly what I want to accomplish so it must be done
This is exactly what I want to accomplish so it must be done
But I feel like I can already draw all the boxes from the angles and stuff
This is exactly what I want to accomplish so it must be done
it helps with loads more too.
for example, say you have 2 characters that are different heights (fully 2d) ones tall ones short
and you want one to appear closer to the viewer, the other one further away from the viewer.
how do you do that while still clealry indicating their height difference? since if the tall guy is further away he will appear shorter than the short guy. but you want your brain to say, hes taller but further away. not the guy whose closest is tallest.
this will solve that issue because of how to move them relative to the horizon line (the eye level of the imaginary viewer)
just one of the many frustrating issues it will help you solve
let me know if any of explanations or suggestions are not clear! i wont be offended
But I feel like I can already draw all the boxes from the angles and stuff
then youre already further along than u thought!
but whats important with this is how they relate to eahother in space.

I must trane my mind to imagine the page as a 3d space and not simply a 2d box
This way the characters will all make sense there because it's like a real little space you don't have to try to get the poses to not look funky because it's an actual space with rules and stuff

exactly.
even if youre only drawing 2d characters. because even if theyre 2d the boxes will help you make everything consistent if you rotate them or change their distances.
and the stage (page) like you said is always 3d
Well the poses can and should look funky it's cartoons and they are all rubber
But I mean it won't look wrong

ya one of my fvaourite quotes is theres no rules just tools.
these things arent rules in the sense like in math where you cant break them or there’s even a. right or wrong.
its just an extra mental tool you have in your arsenal that you can choose to apply if you find it helpful, or choose to sometimes ignore or even break if you like how it looks :)
but having more tools to choose to use or not, will always give you more options!
