I do think a common thread is that the issues that would drive somebody to do something that in moderation is positive, to the point where its detrimental to their quality of life, needs to figure out the thing that caused them to do this and that simply stopping wont fully resolve the issue.

I remember how prevalent the “porn addiction” stance was 20 years ago and two decades later it’s pretty much proven to be a symptom of other emotional issues and not a cause
Unfortunate because the culture still wants to point to that and it keeps people from doing work that would actually heal.
Not saying it’s as simple as X and Y for everyone, but making your bed everyday will probably help more than letting the Puritans co-opt your bodily autonomy.
