In my heart of hearts, I believe Mamdani can fix the bathroom issue. It’s not some impossible problem, it just comes down to actually investing in them, keeping them maintained, and having people responsible for making sure they don’t fall apart.

Lol yeah, but a dirty public bathroom doesn’t prove housing can’t work. That’s a management problem, not a ‘people shouldn’t have homes’ problem.”

during Covid, they converted a lot of hotels into basically free housing for the homeless in order to try and decrease spread. And all those places were essentially destroyed. I think you would need to find a way to isolate people who are homeless but can function in society from people who can’t because of mental illness/substance abuse. And get the latter people help or rehabilitation.

some homeless people will just absolutely destroy their environment and it makes the ones who don't do that look bad

    But I wouldn't say it's the majority

  • A lot of the time the regular homeless people will also dislike those homeless people

Some people become homeless because of domestic abuse or just dealt a s***ty card in life for sure. But these people wouldn’t be able to co-exist with the ones that are homeless because of self-destructive behavior

  • Obviously nyc probably has more of that

But that's how it seems to work in areas I have been in

There are separate little mini groups of them and some behave very differently than others

I think that’s more of an argument for better management and support systems than against providing housing. Giving someone a room without services, security, or proper upkeep isn’t the same as a real housing system. You’d still need mental health care, addiction treatment, and case workers alongside the housing. I also don’t think the state should be deciding what happens to people or where they should go. The focus should be on giving people options, support, and resources to get back on their feet. And not only does that kind of investment bring more safety and cleanliness, it also creates jobs through construction, maintenance, security, and support services.

    Ya

They also for the most part don't want to

There would need to be more of a solution for those people instead of just being like "here's a place now have at it"

Even outside of the obvious addict behavior

There are a lot like a ton of homeless people who are just insanely mentally ill and shouldn't be on the street or a place by themselves at all

Like talking to themselves all day getting mad yelling at people who aren't there type of crazy people

They are scary to deal with

The litmus test would be whether or not someone can be a functional member of society in their current state. I don’t think you can really genuinely give options to a violent schizophrenic that’s off the meds, for example. They aren’t going to choose to be on meds most of the time as they don’t typically possess the insight to do so.

Yeah, and they require help. But, we also must accept that some people are probably genuinely unsalvageable.

    what’s he do

Let the little bit of fame get to his head and act unprofessional and be hard to work with and miss some big opportunities bc of bad lifestyle choices. He said diplo had a plan for how riff should drop music that he really disagreed with but kinda recently said diplo was always right with giving him advice
