I remember a couple weeks ago I defended the idea of a curry barker texas chainsaw massacre and a Zach cregger resident evil

And I still do think those movies could be good

But I have come to the conclusion that it is slightly disappointing that we had new directors making fully original horror movies and they immediately started doing reboot/spinoff stuff instead

I hesitate to make a definitive call on that because I'm not a producer or mixing/mastering engineer. I can tell a mix/master/recording that sounds really good to my ears, and I think I'm pretty good at calling out a bad mix/master/recording, but I'm not sure how good I am at really identifying a tasteful mix

That being said, Thriller was always a gold standard to me, most of the early Michael albums sound great though

Pet sounds is also very nice, staying in the RYM lane

Fleetwood Mac's Tango in the Night too

One of my real secret sauce albums is Stormin' by Brainstorm. It's an old 70s rnb album that is recorded and mixed beautifully, just a fantastic album too

I have a lot of specific songs I use to test different things though

For female vocals, I'll use At Your Best by Aaliyah

For male vocals, Goodbyes by Post Malone is actually super good at the start

For general coherence, I use The First Taste by Fiona apple

For bass impact and definition, I use Go Crazy by Chris Brown & Young Thug, as well as Back of My Mind by Manami (old Pharrell prod)

For placement and realism I use Bubbles by Yosi Horikawa

To see how well a certain headphone handles speed, I use this corny synth track called Overdrive

I have a lot more, but those are just some that come to mind
