The answer to that would have been "Yes black people are currently committing violent crimes, but not because they are black. Black people commit a disproportional amount of violent crimes due to economic situations they were forced into against their will" and then you could have said how the focus on just "black people commit crimes!" Is effective propaganda used to turn people racist
The same way Israel committing a genocide is unfair to just attribute to "it's because they are evil Jews!"
