ok so IVs do the same thing as EVs except theyre not affected by what pokemon you battle, theyre a set number when the pokemon is generated.

every stat has a random number between 0-31, this is the IV stat

you can only modify it by breeding pokemon together with perfect IVs. catching one in the wild would be 1/31X7 which is essentially impossible.

but IVs allowed for more customization and variation in pokemon stat spreads, so speed ties were very rare.

but they got rid of IVs and most competeive mons run like 2 or 3 different EV spread variations, so now it happens fairly often.

I see i see well it does make sense with the EV spread variations cause i was thinking wouldnt every pro player just train their pokes the same to be optimal

yes! and thats what happened!
although obviusly some pros do cheeky things with it to throw people off in the meta

they got rid of it because it was so difficult to get a perfect iv pokemon. it took hours and hours of breeding. but it was a nice layer of complexity
