late on the blue slide park post but here we go. Frick Part Market the first Mac song/video I ever saw. Thought the song was cool but the video with the wig and s*** was too corny for 12 year old me lol. Then I saw Party On Fifth Ave and I hated that s***. Its one of those albums that I never bothered listening too because I heard nothing good about it.

Once I became a big fan around early 2014 I gave it a spin. I definitely don't like the project but theres for sure some songs on there worth giving a spin. For the most part this is craziest best album to give to a 8 year old as his first hip hop album. A lot of the songs are tacky and corny. this feels like he made the album he was expected to make but his heart wasn't in it. That becomes really obvious when Mac revealed he was actually addicted to Lean and depressed the entire time making this project so his follow up Macadelic is probably a more accurate reflection of what he was going through and what he wanted to make at the time. Man was making Up All Night when he was feeling like The Question lol. Some of the songs do just feel half assed and chasing hits. Not nearly as authentic or as good as Best Day Ever.

With that said I do feel like theres some highlights here. Under The Weather is a nice catchy pop rap track with a police - Roxanne inspired instrumental (im sure it originally sampled it but they changed it). Blue Slide Park (the title track), Of The Soul & One Last Thing are great to hear young mac just rapping over some great production of the time. they feel so nostalgic. those songs aged better than the rest of the album I'd say. Also looking back Frick Park Market is a great cross over single and probably the best attempt on this album.

just noticed that theres moments in the balloonerism version of colors and shapes where the bassline is completely different. Thundercat is going crazy during the second verse and chorus following it.

also the basslines in the balloonerism version of uber are in different places than the final version

love how the synths get to shine on the remastered version of faces.

still convinced uber and the song that changed everything at some point where conceptually connected. they both seem to use some of the same sounds in there production and some of the themes match. Plus also sure SZA was originally going to be on Uber.

anyone else hear that snippet of the og jet fuel snippet going around produced by flying lotus? sounds crazy. not sure im sold on it being authentic tho. could be a very good edit using a diy acapella since we got the official instrumentals a while back. the audio quality of the vocals is kinda sketchy imo

the fact that comments arent turned off on mac miller official uploads in line with recent trend makes me inordinately happy
