When i first caught the double meaning of Faces/Phases
when i first saw that guy standing in the cover art not even kidding, in writing this i realized there's TWO

same. even though i'm bummed out we won't get to witness his evolution as an artist anymore etc i find myself just missing h i m. Artistry aside he was such a loveable, fun character. would always cheer me up to watch an interview of his or some behind the scenes footage of him just goofing around

totally get you, especially your point about the later interviews. because even though Mac has had his struggles for a long time and alot of his lyrics being prophetic in terms of his own d*** use, joining the 27 club etc, DESPITE that it really really caught me off guard when he passed because, like you said, this time around it just seemed like he had finally figured it out and gotten to a better space and especially his self awareness of his situation, reflecting on the car crash etc. just looking at his 2018 Zane Lowe interview and The Internet radioshow appareance, as a long time Mac fan (since late 2010) it was such a tangible change in his energy, it felt so different (ngl it feels really weird to write about him in this way)
