ima check him out, neva heard of him....im just now diggin/liking navy blue latest project..kid is nice
listen to ensley. he also murders every feature verse he does so look thru those
yet to hear a reason why tyler is trash other than a blonde wig
Because there are actual rappers out there with skills like I don’t know, KA you ever heard of him?
In That Navy Blue interview, he mentioned this new movement of underground artists (which I assume includes: Navy Blue himself, Mavi, Earl, MIKE, Medhane, Pink Siifu, Akai Solo, Ade Hakim, etc.) and it seems like such a cohesive and positive movement in the underground. Like, a movement that people might look back on and really appreciate for pushing this culture forward. I know there’s a thread on here for it, but I was just wondering if anyone here is tuned in to all these artists?
I saved like a bunch of s*** from a lot of them to listen to, but if anyone can point me in any direction to start I’d appreciate it. I’ve heard a lot of Navy Blue, and I’m familiar with Akai and Pink Siifu through Terror Management.
Medhane, Mike and Mavi are cold as f***. I haven’t gotten around to hearing them all because there’s so many of them lol
What your favorite tapes from the crew?
idk if putting ka and mach against each other is fair. at this point both basically reconstruct the genre as we know it but take so different approaches to how they do it. now lets get this straight -- mach FOR SURE can f*** with KA on the track, and vice versa. like those two are s+ tier rappers. I literally don't have anybody else plus woods touching em MAYBE earl a few years in, thats it. not even hov, not even kendrick, not even aesop, not even lupe
back to my original -- for us to see who's stronger its gotta be like 60 rounds of 16 between the two. EVEN THEN we all know ka doesn't get down like that. just like I don't expect mach to write something like Just I don't expect KA on his 'flip you like dutch traders' s***. and thats perfectly fine
believe me when I say that I am so grateful for living in the same era of these two making some of the most boundary-pushing music in the history of hip-hop. even if on the low, even if it doesn't bump in the whip, even if people behind the scenes f*** with it and noone else, even behind three figure digits. this is not very definitive as far as which ONE is the better one but I had to get it off my chest.
I really appreciate your take on it & breaking it down. It actually sounded a lot more accurate than anybody elses take on it. At the end of the day both of these artists are from the streets, Even goes without saying that MACHS career is heading in a more promising direction at this point in 2020

For real they all have so much out. I really liked Mavi's Let the Sun Talk, and I fw Navy Blue's Ada Irin and Soul Golden

Along with @DwindlingSun I would add Navy Blue’s EPs:
Soul Golden
From The Heart..
Navy In Rage
Pink Siifu - BRWN
Pink Siifu - Twothousandnine
Other than that Fu is very experimental. I bought his whole discography thinking I was bout to get a bunch of mini Ensley’s lol

saw your post, whenever you can you gotta check that Medhane guy out. I feel like hes the next up from that whole movement that you're describing (a lot of names to it. the collective itself is called sLUms, the genre is called everything from lo-fi to diary rap). MIKE's hype kinda died down but medhane caught quite a bit of attention as of recently it feels like. his music is fantastic, try his album with Slauson Malone under the name Medslaus, then check out Own Pace too, under Medhane this time.

one of the hottest singles of the year at 1:15 runtime lol. got somber but loving reaction outta Jadakiss of all people on his Cosign episode with Genius

Exactly. Both are the best at what they do.
Too many amazing underground artists rn

Word I'll check him out. I've also heard Slauson Malone's A Quiet Farewell and that was dope.
I saw that Animoss produced a track on Own Pace so I'm down already lol.
As far as MIKE, I feel like he reminds me too much of Earl (or maybe Earl sounds too much like him?) for me to really fw it. But I'm still not dismissing him either way.

hot take -- at this point Im pretty much convinced that we live through the second renaissance of underground hip-hop. that scene had been kicking mainstream's ass since like 2017 or something. EVERY album is a classic for this or that reason, and even if not they are all at the very very least incredible. so much crazy writing all around, some of the craziest producers out there, literal young geniuses 2-3 years apart from me and you.

Yeah fr this a renaissance of underground hip-hop. Everyone pushing each other and exploring new angles. Its refreshing and communal.
Just this month alone you got Pink Siifu this week, Zeroh and Shabazz Palaces next, and Quelle Chris the week after. Its unprecedented the quantity and quality we get month after month and its been this way for the last couple years. Long may it continue. Hip hop is in a very good place.

No doubt. I agree completely that this modern underground scene is making some wild, brilliant, boundary-pushing rap. I've listened to SO much Ka, Roc, (some billy woods), Mach... these dudes are a part of something special and I love that they're all tuned in to each other.
Checking out MIKE, Navy Blue, Medhane, Pink Siifu will lead you to the rest of the collective. Earl played A LOT of their tracks on RBMA Radio. I personally just always liked MIKE’s flow and production
Lol nah Earl sounds like him
How is that possible when Earl has been out since 09
Another skilled emcee with a promising career
