Damn bro honestly the worst take I’ve ever heard come out of his mouth
Hate how any hip-hop music that doesn’t sound like bladee or 100 gecs isn’t “pushing boundaries” and is bad now lol
its crazy how he went from the person I would go to for a lot of cool hip-hop narratives and recommendations to literally not caring less for what he thinks about my current favorites. it seems like he completely fell off of whats happening with modern underground hip-hop totally disregarding anything that doesn't sound like pc music vibes or death grips in any capacity. and yeah yeah hE jUsT dOeSnT lIkE iT I get it
People are upset that Pitchfork gave him a good review?
I’m talking about fantano personally

It’s off hype, they always do it an album or two late and end up giving a weaker album a better Score because the actual artist is buzzing more
in a way yes his profile and respect in the industry is def different now, but also this project is a big time grower tbh as is to be expected. First three tracks, Photocopy Sloppy and last two tracks are peak Mach to me at this point tbh

That’s exactly how I’m feeling , was bummed to see a bunch of users in here not feeling it as much

I’m more referring to comments from the last page. I’m not seeing the problem with Pitchfork giving this project a good review.

100% facts I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed

I think people were more upset about it being his highest score from p4k

im critical of p4k as whole, because they do have a tendency to pull what @Aftermathbws mentioned to seem 'real' when they were just as early as every other person paying attention to music on the internet. I am really glad they reviewed it well tbh good publicity for mach is well deserved but i don't want them to feel obligated to rate it highly and be in the position to put people on... now we gotta deal with mf's itt like "pitchfork sent me" feel?

Fair enough. Full disclosure, though, I first heard about Mach in a Pitchfork article about Dump Gawd: Hommy Edition 👀 I dunno, I feel like that Fantano video showed his music to be pretty solidly goober-proof, so I feel like we’re still a ways from Mach getting co-opted. No matter what type of looks he gets, I don’t see him ever not making the kind of music he makes. I believe him when he says he’s not here to do it anyone else’s way.

All good, haha. I don’t know that the type of hipster people envision when they hear “Pitchfork” even reads Pitchfork anymore at this point, honestly; I think they’re all Proud Boys now or something.
which Mach project do you think is his best?
I personally think The G.A.T is his best album, probably followed by HBO , then either the Spook or Luh Hertz
Manifesting those DM2 vinyls to come back around , I couldn’t cop last time but now I’m ready

This ain't even his final form....

at least according to aoty.com their Fete review is the first Mach critic review outside of the blogosphere. They've given Mach quite a bit of spotlight ever since that project, it's not to be scoffed at.
Not quite as much but similarly to slums P4k took Mach way more seriously than most fairly early on and have been consistent with it. Can't think of another publication which gave him this much platform.
I feel like folks hate on P4k out of principle too much and close their eyes to all the work they do, especially compared to any of those other major publications, or Fantano who's just snoozing for years then crawls out only to give a complete cringe take (then prolly changes his mind down the line just as with Earl, Tyler, Cudi..)
This ain't even his final form....
to me this album is all refinement but not at all radical tbh. To me seems like most innovation in Mach's sound happened in 2017 and since then he's been mostly just riding with it and polishing it. That time since got us a lot of gems... But I'm kinda ready for something new at this point tbh, tho also not sure if I can expect it to happen.
If he is making moves with Hov that could possibly give him a space to try new things... but that needs to be seen
which Mach project do you think is his best?
I still like HBO the best. The GAT is a close second; no features whatsoever is how I prefer Mach projects but HBO is longer, manages to still not have any skippable songs (I like the beat on the Keisha Plum song so much that him not being on it never bothered me), and it was personally the album where it went from “this guy’s great” to “wait, is this actually my favorite rapper ever”.
