I don’t dislike The Spook, but it’s one of the projects I come back to the least. I think a big part of it is not really liking any of Fahim’s verses on it. Love “SHPSHFTR” and “Yeezy Taught H.E.R.”, though.
u bugging bout what u saying bout fdm tbh i felt like that lofi s*** was always on purpose cos mach mixes and masters his stuff.
It’s definitely on purpose. But it still sounded like trash first listen 😂

i get that tbh but that project is a grower it reveals itself with more listens and that carpe dm beat that’s earl’s best beat for me still

I feel you. That’s how people felt about SRS at first

Doot doot doot was top5 until Fahim said “dump your body in the trash like the Cookie Monster”
Any Mach unpopular opinions?
I will start: DM 1 is better than DM 2
Luh Hertz > The gat
FDM > dumpmeister
Spook w selfy stik is top 3
MHL is Mach’s worst
mach thread always loves a ranking clash, eventho you shall not prosper going against the wave… haha
LH > GAT > LH > GAT
FDM overrated af
Mach creole intro on Fromaj is horrible
DUCK CZN > DM1+2
There should only be DM3
HBO not top 3
Dumpmeister is Mach's Dump Goat, shouldn't count as an album, still top 3 tho
FDM still sucks

Interesting Dumpmeister take. Would you classify it more as a compilation, then? And do you just personally enjoy it too much to not put it over something like HBO?

i never thought about it before today, but when u do, dumpgoat and dumpmeister means exactly the same… dumpgoat is filled with "featured" tracks from other artists projects, which is not the case with dumpmeister, but still it is a compilation of collaborative joints, except for 2 tracks. that's why i can't see it as a proper mach album… and yet i could still rank it in his discog.
hbo is incredible, but it feels to me like it's in its own bubble from the rest of mach's work, and i don't come back to it as much as other projects.

I feel that, HBO feeling kind of apart from the rest of his work at this point. I was going to say it was, for me, the beginning of Mach as we know him today (lush production, gangsta conscientious but with an even clearer emphasis on the aforementioned “gangsta”), but I guess it is more of a transitional record when you think about it, maybe even more so than FYI^.
Personally, it was not only the first record to really click for me (I thought Hommy Edition was cool but HBO made me a fan fan), it also happens to (still!) be the release with the most Mach per ounce, making it number one for me, which I know sounds shallow but he also happens to pull it off (😑); it’s not just long for no reason (😑), it still works as an engaging long-form concept album (mostly, and if you’re a hater probably only, due to the 60 Minutes samples, but still). My top 3 are HBO, The GAT and FYI simply because they’re the longest projects with the least features, which is, selfishly, what I will always prefer (and know I may never get again, but I also would always rather have an artist do what they want to do and not what I think might make me happy as a fan).
^The confirmed existence of things like ETA: Greek Fest, however, makes fan discussions about his artistic trajectory a little nebulous now. Not only is Droog out here Last Dragon dancing to new Mach we haven’t heard, there’s old Mach we may never hear. The GAT is even kind of weird to really throw in a discussion since technically we weren’t all meant to even hear it; that project could be in its own category as well.
Respect for putting this out there. I disagree with every single one.
Mine is FDM is overrated. It has amazing moments (eg, TJIU), but it don't crack Mach's top 5\. It's not accessible- his vocals are mixed terrible, Earl chops are muddy, and they're rapping over samples with vocals so it's hard to hear. I think there's this nostalgia element where because it was many's introduction to Mach after the Earl co-sign, the project stays warm.
To think FDM was originally uploaded without TJIU and Kawsality...
Damn I feel like FDM is his most accessible project. His most fun listen to me
I thought GAT was gonna be better than Luh Hertz before they got leaked. Now I think Luh Hertz is much better.

Work me through your thinking here. I love both but the GAT pull me back in far more often

I remember talking about either group buying GAT or LH on ktt1, I argued for GAT cus the cover looked cooler. Fortunately before we had spend any money both leaked. And I was blown away by LH, while I thought GAT was fine, but nothing special.

I feel the same. I don’t think GAT is really close to his best. I have a lot of projects ahead of it
Luh Hertz has Mach's best three song run imo in xxx-xxxxx
Also, damn, really surprised to see so much dislike for FDM. Agree completely with @marcusg. Most accessible and enjoyable. Easily the project i'll reach for the quickest when in the mood to listen to Mach.
i got an even better remaster of that mach’s hard lemonade bonus song
if anyone wants it i’ll lob it
There’s just so much more rapping to unpack on The GAT than on Luh Hertz but I get it if the production, etc. just doesn’t grab everyone as much. The fact that it’s under 10 tracks but every song is a rap song puts it ahead of Luh Hertz for me; I usually skip to the next track after the vocals are over on the one where the beat rides out forever, and I usually turn the album off about a minute into the final track, once I’ve heard the loop a few times.

Ehhh, it’s accessible if you like Earl’s production. I probably wouldn’t recommend it to someone who doesn’t already like weird beats. If you hate “East”, you’re probably not f***ing with “Basin Bleu” or “Henrietta LAX”.
