for automation use it as a tool to help ur writing process
like if u have a 4 bar loop, automate a filter over it, have that filter open up into an unfiltered section
now u have 8 bars, u can rearrange stuff and get 16 bars by creating more tension
if u automate a highpass filter it'll make ur sound "thinner" which can be useful for transitions

Yeah I second this. I use filter sweeps all the time. Low and High.
I use Read though because write or whatever the by-hand one is sucks. It f***s up the latency every time for me

touch and then click the two sections u wanna filter
if i try to do anything by hand in logic with more than 5 tracks it crashes, I feel that

This dude is my favorite producer rn. So underrated, such a genius.
This whole album is boom bap and som dance beats but with like psychedlic jazz fresstyles over it.
Wanna make music like him now but I can't freestyle on the piano for s*** lol
throw some delay on the string lead. Real low mix, like 1/2t. The pad that is throughout the track could be a leveled a bit higher.
pad that comes in at 0:45 needs a bandpass filter that allows it to come in gradually. Needs more width too, try the ensemble thing in logic or dimension expander. If it's a serum/alchemy patch turn up the unison. ADSR shaping to have it come in gradually and a longer release could be cool.
The bass thing could also be automated. Foley is great if you have some samples, i'd try to create a mood by chopping up a foley pattern and having it progress. You can do this with entire songs too, if you chop out little 1/4 notes and stuff it won't be recognizable.
The idea has potential, don't let your cousin get you down. I like the drums, they just need a bit more variation.
I go back through a lot of my old bounces and i'm like "wow this idea wasn't bad, I just didn't execute it that well".
like 2 years ago I didn't even know where to load my VSTs, only been producing semi seriously with direction since January 2019. I found a bunch of posts I made on another forum relating to production and I was cringing hard asf
I was also kind of an a******, but I met a guy irl off of that board who gave me a lot of good advice and direction
If anyone is interested in utilizing creative automation/creating tension from samples, start at 35 minutes here

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j44Q1y4rOB0&t=2224sRandom question but before you master is it still necessary to make sure the mix tops out at -6? I haven't been doing that and the masters still come out loud enough.
