I spend a good portion of my money on concerts, certainly don't have 270$ (+shipping from US to Europe) for a release. I can respect them doing this for physicals as rich people collector's items so they can get some money but my favorite music is usually the music I can listen to

would prefer it on streaming services over leaking ofc but feel like that might not happen

prior support doesn't really make you entitled to any labor going forward? just kinda gross to say that since you can't have it then f*** the artists intention, I hope it leaks.
"my favorite music is music is usually the music I can listen to"..so you hope that it gets stolen and distributed and the artists aims go down the toilet just like that? all because you couldn't get something once? seems a bit self centered

nah what I mean is this distribution model (if it's the exclusive distribution model) is pretty elitist and classist and I don't rly feel bad to listen to a leak when it's literally my only option.

That's the first reason.

The second one is I highly doubt any artist would actually not want their fans to listen to their projects, that's why I've long suspected that for example Mach calculated that people will share the files of his albums, but that he thinks he overall makes more money getting big checks from a few people rather than a few cents from a couple thousand more.

And at the same time Mach would not be where he's at rn and have the respect from other artists (who are mostly poor) if the leaking hadn't happened. people listening to him and hyping him was very much part of his profile rising and opportunities like that Tidal deal coming along. Attention and respect, people listening to you and hyping you is arguably worth more than a one time payment.

so yea I first and foremost think leaking is just a calculated part of this model, but if he intended this to be only for the wealthy art collectors it's kinda f*** him tbh. I just hope it happens sooner rather than later (it's just bound to happen anyway) bc I'm hype for new Navy.
