To be fair Google was known for only hiring from elite schools in its early days. Palantir recently was the same way. Uber too. Tesla has a lot of smart people there now

When you get hired at a company they give you shares that vest over a 4 year period along with your salary. Plus sometimes if you get a bonus they'll give you extra that also take a year+ to vest. The reason most people don't leave companies in tech is because they have millions of dollars tied up in future shares they might get if the company does well
