What's weird about this situation isnt that it's a 3rd party focused direct (Nintendo counts fire emblem, Mario rabbids and bayo as 3rd party titles so its not like there wont be exclusives being shown) but the fact nintendo still wont show botw2, has a handful of games that are basically done and ready (like that 1-2 switch sequel, metroid prime remaster, bayo 3 and new fire emblem) but not announced, and months in this year still to be filled, like august and october. I can maybe see august getting nothing, but not october. So either something like bayo is getting dated in next week's direct, or i dont know when would they announce a game for that period. September would only leave at best one month of marketing which doesnt feel enough for any game. There are twitter drops, but at that point they could just made a smaller direct. I know its useless to predict the unpredictable, but maybe that's the fun of it

3rd party directs are usually just downgraded ports right, or indie titles?

It depends, but mostly its those yeah. There's the occasional 3rd party exclusive like monster hunter and octopath traveler, and the 3rd party contracted works like fire emblem and bayonetta, of which we could see something in this direct

Tbh it’s not that out of the ordinary. Botw2 won’t get shown again till the release date is 100% locked in internally and they’re ready to reveal the title. Also the 1-2 switch sequel is apparently hot buns and Nintendo might scrap it.

Prime Remaster, leaked fire emblem, and the next mk8d wave need to be announced and promoted so it sucks that they’re apparently doing a 3rd party only direct. People are speculating that they’re holding onto games for the switch pro next year so we’ll see

Don't know whether to get Tropical Freeze or just set my Wii U up for it and play the copy I have

I'm sure there will be some relevant third party announcements, but still, c'mon Nintendo. June has always been associated with E3 and big gaming announcements from our favorite gaming companies, so aiming low and just dropping a Partner Showcase feels very underwhelming. At least drop a new trailer for 1 heavy hitter first party game (BotW2, Metroid Prime 4, or a new Mario or DK or whatever), or announce some new hardware to balance it out a bit. I understand that they aren't attached to the month of June and may have other plans that suit their timing and marketing better, but it would be nice to get at least a heavy hitter first party announcement/update or hardware.

Set the Wii U up. At least with that you can also get some good ass emulators on it. You gonna need to since it doesn't look like Nintendo got much else interesting for the Switch until Splatoon 3 and Zelda

  • Jun 27, 2022

What I'm expecting from the Partner showcase:

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope trailer + release date
Bayonetta 3 trailer + release date
Some Persona title(s) coming to Switch
Red Dead Redemption 2 in 15 fps Jk.

I was in your situation and went ahead and copped for the Switch as well. I do not regret it, especially since I love playing 2D platformers in handheld mode. Believe I bought TF on sale for $40.

Very disappointing, especially when Nintendo was looking so promising earlier this year. I think the real issue is that Switch Sports and Battle League hasn’t made a real impact. Since Nintendo heavily depends on their 1st party games it drastically effects how they are perceived. Outside of Xenoblade 3, Nintendo doesn’t have anything else going this summer until S3. If Nintendo knocked it out park with SS and BL, I wouldn’t of felt disappointed with this partner showcase.

Like I said, I NEED those FF pixel remasters, never played the OGs before.

Also Chrono Trigger would be sick too.

The Pixel Remasters only being on PC and mobile is outrageous. I get that the old ports of FF 1-6 on PC and mobile were in need of an overhaul, but there's no reason why these couldn't have come to consoles too

My expectations are definitely grounded. This lowkey reminds me of E3 2016 when Nintendo basically had nothing to show. I’m not going to give them a hard time when COVID is still a factor and it’s not like Sony or Microsoft have a huge holiday coming up either. Times are hard for me and I’m broke I can’t afford a bunch of games + like I mentioned earlier in thread I have enough to play as is and the games coming out between July and September will also hold me over not to mention Pokemon in November. Me personally I’m good but I see why others might be disappointed.
