Since publishing this story, VGC has heard from multiple sources who said Nintendo has told publishers its next console will now launch in Q1 2025.
According to the sources, third-paty game companies were recently briefed on an internal delay in Nintendo’s next-gen launch timing, from late 2024 to early the following year.

One publishing source suggested the delay was so that Nintendo could prepare stronger first-party software for the console.

It’s possible the next-gen Nintendo console will now follow a similar timeline to the Switch, which was released in March but announced the previous year.

Delaying the launch a couple more months to Q1 ensures they’ll have a steady stream of games whenever this launches.

I took a break from gaming for a few years around 2013-2017 while I was in college so I missed the switch release, last time I was hyped for a new console was 2012 with the Wii U which was disappointing so the last truly hype release honestly was Wii my first console back in 2006 lmao almost 20 years ago

This year is amazing so far so no issues with a delay. Already way too many games to play and a ton more still to come. This year is insane

Switch got the whole trilogy and they just dropped 3 recently, makes sense to hold X off for launch year on Switch 2.

With the switch 2 delays, I came up with a theory that they’re going to release it with GTA 6.

Nintendo released the GTA definitive edition and it didn’t ruin their family friendly console persona which opens the door for more GTA type games.

It would be huge if the GTA 6 delay is also due to this. As Rockstar and Nintendo will make a lot of money together.

I think the era of games being exclusive to specific consoles is dwindling as ultimately, they want more money. They can maximise hype across all video game users with having more consoles that can play their games
