We haven't dodged the bullet at all. He's out there and plans on running again. The Proud Boys and Oathkeepers are still active, as are the dozens of other militias. Garland has a moral obligation to indict Trump, but can you imagine what will happen if/when he does?

there was never a realistic case that these goobers were gonna overthrow the US government. at best (or worst depending on your view), they may have injured a politician or two or caused significant property damage. the view on the situation would have been a lot different in the original thread if these dudes started rioting outside the capital and were hunting down civilians - they weren't. nobody should care about the safety of our detached, corrupt political class; you don't have to (and shouldn't) cheer on deranged republicans like this, but I think at the same time I'm not gonna pretend to care about people in congress would have destroyed the lives and stability of millions inside and outside the US.
