i came here to post something else, but on the way, i unearthed this something for the people cover of SAIMH. A bit scary how well they nail the "SAIMH" harmony

I heard Voodoo for the first time when I was 14, during Summer 2016.... in Autumn, I heard Prince's When Two Are In Love on Tumblr, and immediately went to torrent his discog. For the next two years, I fell in love with both of their oeuvres, crisscrossing between their work while discovering their influences. I remember my glee when I found his rendition of one of my fav Prince joints. I reveled in the differences in every expressive nuance, wondering if the student had got the better of his master. Till this day, I can't go without playing them together in succession.

For years, I've been hoping that the video he shot for this cover surfaces

I remember scouring the net & watching all of D's shows, & being pleasantly surprised when recognizing the many instances of sauce acquisition during my subsequent viewings of Prince's & the Funk Mob's performances.

One adlib that isn't mentioned above is the classic "good god!" which I first heard D' spout, only to discover Prince had did the same decades before. Jesse Johnson reveals it came from Soul Brother #1 here
Imagine Eric Leeds accompanying you during your comeback show

All in all, I primarily have D'Angelo to thank for my sankofa through the genealogy of Black music, and most importantly for formally introducing me to what would become my favorite genre: Funk. I thank D'angelo for being the inaugural & shining example of what it looked like & meant to simultaneously honor your forebears in a musical tradition while pushing boundaries and defying corporate relegation in the process.

Um has anyone noticed how similar “Baltimore” sounds to D’Angelo’s “The Charade”?

...so on a lighter note. The night we played with Prince.
(KOOL AID SMILE)
Yo man that night was so surreal.
Did it shock you that he forgot the bridge to "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker"?
But we had his back though. I just want to work with him. Make him do some '82 s*** with the deep drums, and the synth. I wanna see him go there again. Back to some raw funk s***.
So what are our plans now. Today can be the beginning of a new movement. From what I hear there will be 2000 people in Brooklyn in the snow waitin for you......
Awww nigga, I just wanna bring the funk to the people. I can care less about if we sale millions or not. I just wanna funk.

I adore both, tbh.
v1 has a lot of charm with those spacey synths throughout but v2 feels like the finished thought. I know v2 gets critised for being over produced (I'd be the first to accuse prince of overproducing songs at times) but if there was any song to go all out on it was the line.
but yes both are great.

Well said.

Love this remaster. ATWIAD b-sides are a treat.
Discovered 'Girl' when I went to see him live back in 2016 on the Piano & Microphone tour, been in love with the song ever since
What are the vault grails that are still unreleased? Going from memory
Astounding new bootleg.
Seek it out.
