All of these videos have the same filming and editing styles, everyone wants to be old alien workshop or bill strobeck. All the skaters dress the same and skate similarly depending on who they ride for/hang with. Song choices in videos sucks these days. Everyone is wearing the same shoes. Everything is so fast paced it’s become a chore to keep up with everything and nothing really stands out, you got people posting their Enders on instagram before the video part is even out. S*** is just over saturated and boring, I get way more enjoyment out of watching local kids/my friends skate than these new ams/pros.

We used to have to wait years to see videos, the only content we would get would be photos in magazines and we would have to wait to see the clip and it would hit 10x harder. Teams used to have individuality and everyone would play their own individual role as opposed to being just another skater. The OGs all had huge personalities and were actually interesting individuals, these new kids have 0 personality and only care about skateboarding and grew up in the skatepark training to be as good as they are.

Lastly these kids are just too damn good or just not good at all and get a pass because of their trendy “style” and trendy trick selection. It sounds dumb but idk the last time I was genuinely surprised by a trick, these kids have been ridiculous for like a decade now and nothing is surprising nor exciting, and on the opposite side of the coin you have a million kids wearing polar big boy pants doing 50 wall rides, slappys, no complys etc and that s*** used to be wack as f*** when I was growing up s*** is mad corny to me and is not impressive nor fun to watch.

I still love skateboarding of course but it’s definitely lost a lot of what captivated me as a little kid. I feel like a renaissance is near though, at least I hope

I just watch old videos and comparing them to the s*** dropping today it’s night and day. S*** is all about aesthetics these days, skateboarding used to be raw now it’s a fashion show. These kids are better than ever but it just doesn’t hit like that due to the fast food market of instagram & YouTube. There’s no staying power with any of these video parts or full lengths these days.

& I think a renaissance is coming because culture as a whole is dying. There won’t be any big board brands in a few years there will be a million small brands, Nike & adidas will cut back on skateboard footwear production which will allow new core brands to arrive and blossom. Basically I envision a rebirth coming within the decade but who knows what could happen, skateboarding is at a low right now though
