i was right about sony also doing a two console option

i think the digital console will be around maybe $100 cheaper since the disc drive is also for 4k discs & such.

i suspect the gen after ps5 (ps6 etc.) will go full digital. this is probably the stepping stone to get people off of physical or warm them up to the idea in gaming.

I mean not that I'm for it, but seems PC gamers don't have much issue with it and it's been like that for years

i didnt say it was, but its good for the companies so they're gonna do whats better.

every other form of media: music, movies & even books has moved on to digital, so its only logical that gaming will too.

they've been wanting to go digital but have been facing resistance from gamers to a degree, but its been winding down the last few years to where digital is now outselling physical.

this is the "trojan horse" to fully tansistion imo.

im more for physical btw. most of my ps4, switch & x1 library is physical minus a few titles, & i still have all my s*** & a game collection from the super nintendo to now, but its inevitable.

disagree. they wouldnt go through the effort then if its not a decent difference. the tech that runs those discs & such will get stripped thus making it cheaper.

blu ray 4k players run $150 to $300.

We actually have the option to trade games tho/share games with friends. Even if its not that common these days what good will it do by taking it away?

Physical prices actually cheaper in some countries and whilst it might not be as common there are still people who just play offline.

Some people wont even be able to download these games.

ok, but still doesnt change it makes the console cheaper, & it'll look better for them instead of having $600to $700 only. an option that is just "$20" cheaper looks bad/pointless, & that makes no sense to go through the effort to manufacture then with little diff.

they did a similar thing with the ps3. although a different situation, they stripped a lot of the s*** that made the og ps3 expensive af a year or two later (the advanced audio + visual ports & the ps2 tech), & then it became way more affordable & normal.

same idea, but at the beginning.

You know I was actually doubting that they would ever sell the console for $600 but after reading this they definitely gonna sell the disc version for $600 and the digital for $500.
Probably gonna be seeing less physicals on ebay and s*** lol, Sony really playing 4D chess I hate it

yeee, they def don't want another ps3 situation & don't wanna look disconnected/insensitive during the protests & corona s*** going rn that is tanking the economy atm. a $600+ only option would look bad pr wise & plus a lot don't have the money for that rn. its why i predicted here earlier they would have two options, so a cheaper option exists & softens the blow, & looks consumer friendly by choice.

i do hate digital only too, but the market is going that way & its cheaper in manufacturing.

its a good thing & a bad thing at the same time haha.

edit: a good thing is that sony at least will be around for a long time more than likely, so digital support options will be around "forever".

This why I got PS4 on launch cause I was suspecting Sony to strip off a feature from the launch version.

Wtf yall taking all these risks of a digital version to save like $50? Smh

It’s $100 plus tax difference lol, which is $110 here in CA. that’s 2 new games.

also digital is changing. your ps4 purchases will work on PS5 so they’re obviously looking to EXTEND the digital ownership not minimize it in the future

also there are great digital sales all the time. pretty sure red dead 2 was like 50% off only a month after release during their holiday sale

not to mention they will be expanding and adding games to their PS Now service which allows you to download some games like horizon zero dawn, persona 5 or Control for example

discs are old news and production of billions of boxes are bad for the environment

except you can buy games cheap in the digital store and keep it so in 5 years when you want to play again, you can

and I’ll be able to run all my ps4 purchases on PS5 so now they’ll run better lol

Physical is the way to go 🥱

Atleast let your hobby fund itself or gain some value over time.
If I ever decide i’m over gaming(slim chance) i’m guaranteed to make some money back & with my collection I’m guaranteed more back. There’s still a demand for special editions, variants, steelbooks, etc....

Lol I bet those digital systems will be tough to move secondhand too lol

    Don’t quote me.

if you’re holding onto games for a long time, they’re not gaining value... They lose trade in value every few months

Collectors editions are different, those gain value over years, but there can still be collectors editions that don’t come with the disc, actually some companies have already started doing this.

Also a lot of the resell market is the collectors edition minus the copy of the game anyhow, have you ever looked it up?

if you’re selling your games then you have a small library compared to a digital owner. not sure why that’s “the way to go” lmao especially if you like the games you buy and want to play them later.

also if you did hold on to all your games as they lose value lol, you’d have to constantly remove the disc and put in a new one every time you want to switch games

I literally proved every point you made wrong

If you actually had been collecting for years and know what you’re talking about, then you’d know it’s common for a lot of collectors edition and special editions to get resold without the disc or any copy of the game included
