I don't wanna defend CEOs or nun but Jim Ryan was at Sony for like 35 years. He's primarily responsible for Sony's domination in Europe which has been a massive reason for why they've been so successful. He also led the company through a pandemic that resulted in massive hardware shortages and did so in a good way. Not to mention he refused to lead the company down a subscription based path when everyone was so certain that was the way forward.

Honestly don't get the beef with the GaaS s***. Their singleplayer s*** is still getting made. They have a AAA one releasing in 5 days. Sony neglected multiplayer stuff for like the last 13 years. Concord flopped but Helldivers, GT7, and MLB are all successful GaaS titles from them.

Really the way the industry going you need those GaaS titles in order to fund those AAA singleplayer titles. I thought people wanted more variety from them anyway.

Subscription in the gaming sphere or at the console level at the least was only ever Microsoft. I don't think Nintendo or Playstation were ever looking at going in that direction. Only reason Microsoft did was because Xbox owners don't buy games in the first place and they were the losing system.
