Yep, it’s not as powerful as the Series X so it’s constantly running on “boost mode” to keep up according to Cerny so they really went all in on it’s cooling system.

But there's also things like the outer fins extending over the middle black exhaust lines...after all the complaints about the PS4's "ridges" being dust magnets that lead right to the fan around the whole console. The ads for the PS5 where the camera zooms across the middle in close-up — all i can think about is how dusty that area is gonna get and how inconvenient it's gonna be to clean.

Another thing is, for the physical edition, why would they make it where laying your console horizontally puts the optical drive on the bottom? Idk what's in the large part of the case above that drive, but putting any unnecessary weight onto any disc drive = risky business. It makes me feel like there's gonna be complaints in a year or so from horizontal ps5 users about slow disc readings, superficial scratches on discs, noisy drives, etc... Seeing the promo pics of the console laying flat with the disc drive at the bottom just irks me haha

Id be shocked if its quiet tbh. The console looks like its shaped like a funnel with the fan exhaust holes pointed at the top. If they can make that quiet, my hats off to them.

Flagship hardware products in general are pretty ridiculous when it comes to learning lessons from backlash tbh. I mean you'd also think Apple would've stoppec putting heat sinks on top of macbook CPUs but not connecting either to the fan at all after the continuous complaints in 2015; or stop glueing macbook hard disks to the inside of the notebook casing after 2010 which has been one of the most popular complaints for the past deacde+ (they still doing it too).

I do have more faith in Sony's ability to deliver an improved game console these days compared to Microsoft though. After the 360 pro/slim model, Microsoft has been in a downward freefall with their console decisions imo.

But if i'm being real...If I buy mY PS5 and power it on and find out they haven't completely abandoned the 16 year old "cross menu" UI and done something completely different/new, that would annoy me a lot more than a noisy fan

Cerny in the Road to PS5 mentioned how he knows how much people hated the PS4 cooling system, and the reason they went for the variable clocks approach to the gpu and cpu was because that lets them set a specific power limit, and they can design the cooling around that, rather than letting the power (and heat) vary depending on the game as is traditionally done in consoles.
