Actually its made by AMD and those companies work with them to build an APU to each companies specifications, my point stands a smaller die which needs to house CPU cores and GPU cores will not be more powerful than a die almost twice its size specifically for GPU cores

That’s what years of development achieves... the 2080 isn’t a new card. If the rtx2080 had years more of development and came out in 2020 then it would obviously be smaller.

2080 came out in 2018 if I’m correct, so yeah 2 years of them basically producing a custom equivalent to a 2080 resulted in a smaller gpu that will fit in a console essentially.

Your talking about 2080 performance which i never said, i said 2080ti which is a big difference. 2080ti is not happening, we already know this we know which box is targeting which amount of Tflops from amd benchmarks.
    XSX - 12
    PS5 - 10
Being more powerful than the most powerful card on the market was never an option realistically

I was just shortening it, you do realize that the 2080 and 2080Ti both released the same time, in September 2018

It makes sense that after years of development they have a much smaller gpu that is equivalent in power

And it won’t be the most powerful card on the market, there will be 3080 and 3080Ti way before the PS5 and Xbox series x drops. Like I said, the consoles will be far behind the PCs. Over 2 years behind since the consoles will drop probably nov 2020 and the 2080ti came out September 2018

Also why is 13-14 teraflops that hard to believe if the Xbox is projected to be 12

Its not hard to believe its just realistically not going to happen they’ll need to increase the core count on the die. the amount of cores to yield ratio on 7nm are bad and its an expensive fabrication process. If you increase the amount of cores on the wafer the more expensive and larger room for error. Plus this die is not only a GPU it has to contain CPU cores on it

Then this is not even factoring things like powering a chip that large and cooling something that big in console form factor. All this was taken into account with XSX which is how they came up with that pc tower design.

Tbh the GPU isn’t important the leaps with this console generation are CPU and SSD implementation

so this billion dollar company with thousands of people working on this console for years can’t accomplish something 1 teraflop faster than what Microsoft can pull off?

I’m guessing Sony also accounted for heat with their design, these people aren’t idiots, it’s literally their job to get it right

It honestly doesn’t matter how many ppl work on something the technology you have available will always be a limiting factor. Just look at the PS4 and xbox one they used jaguar because it was what was available. That wasn’t designed for consoles its a mobile part they took it made it work.

Like you said these things are custom designed and that’s what has been chosen by each, one seems to be willing to spend more to have the more powerful box. This could be another reason why MS has a weaker next gen console as well, why let the wafers go to waste just turn off the cores and put them in another box.

But people are resources, so is time and money, and the amount of resources you put into something should determine the technology available.

If 14 teraflops was achievable in September 2018, then I’m guessing Sony throwing tons of time, money and people at the problem could also achieve that by November 2020

The 3080Ti coming in Q1/Q2 will be a lot more than 14 teraflops, so a smaller gpu with14 TF won’t even be that crazy by late 2020

Again your comparing a desktop card which is designed for one thing with a different architecture from Nvidia.

This is a much smaller die which has a CPU a GPU and RT cores there’s only so much you can put on the die and have good yield ratios

It doesn’t matter how much money sony throws at something if they are limited by AMD and TSMC they can only work within what the APU designers and fabricators can make.

Cant wait for all the playstation fanboys that acted like "the more powerful console isnt a big deal anymore" to change up

Well this was fake so yeah forget about it.

@Mr_Alderson The GPU part of the APU should be between 11-13.3 TFLOPS which means it been as powerful as a RTX 2080 Super or even RTX 2080 Ti if it's just 0.1 TFLOPS more as the RTX 2080 Ti has 13.4 TFLOPS. But it shouldn't be weaker than a RTX 2060 Super or RTX 2070 Super.

    Btw guys check this out...

iirc its not some proprietary SSD its a new I/O system that’s makes M.2 drives faster. Basically a new SSD controller in the box

Hopefully this is the start of sony launching games on PC, need that best performance possible

Hahahahahahahahahaha after the years of sony pony's attacking xbox for "their exclusives going to pc" wtf are they gonna say now?

  • Jan 16, 2020

Imagine playing HZD 3 years later lol f*** that s***, sticking with console for life

  • Jan 16, 2020

The guy who originally leaked HZD coming to PC claims he’s heard from other developers working on PS5 stuff Sony has told them to

“keep a pc version in mind”

“Seems” Sony will never have simultaneous releases, they will always want their console owners to come first. You’re out of your mind if you think PC releases will be the same.
