From PS2 to PS3 transition and the arrogant bag Sony was in how you think the arrogant bag looking right now
I still don’t see how dev time is so much more than it used to be. Dev tools have only improved to help optimize and do clean coding these days. I can’t imagine developing back in the day, especially when it comes to games where you have so much more s*** involving physics that had to be done by eye and hand back then.
If anything as the games expand and the tools improve the dev time should stay within a certain time frame not go much higher or lower.
Great points tbh. We need an AMA from a developer who’s been doing it from ps1 to now.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that nowadays gamers want bigger world's, longer campaigns, more detailed graphics, better voice acting, etc. Not to mention the amount of platforms devs have to optimize for (PC, ps, 2 Xboxes, sometimes switch, stadia...)
If you think about it games have been $60 for like 10+ years despite inflation. The price increase for games has been a long time coming
So idk if it's about the dev time, but moreso the cost it takes to develop and hire all these people to do these things

Cost to develop isn't even that bad, they usually spend 2x more on advertising games
Now I guess that works on returning a profit or so many devs/publishers wouldn't do it

Going to hope the games art designers get creative with the menu interface then damn

Sony said they’re working on themes in the future
source?
Gonna be a min till I can find it again but the ps5 subreddit usually be on top of this stuff. PS4 didn’t have dynamic themes at launch either

There’s a lot of factors tbh. Most AAA studios only have around maybe 20 devs. If their were like 100 devs in a studio working on a AAA game it would be finished quicker. Another thing is different studios uses different engines, game engines devs made / some from years ago that are still being used cough COD and some are aged and definitely have spaghetti code that causes bugs that need to be fix later down the pipeline .
Still a lot of different examples but game programming is a process tbh
