What I remember reading Elon saying last year was something to the effect of Tesla isn’t going to give HW 4.0 out as an upgrade to people who purchased FSD but have HW 3.0 like they did with the last HW upgrade unfortunately. Which is extremely disappointing tbh. Especially considering that FSD has shown to be extremely glitchy still.

Autopilot on the freeway is amazing and a god send in rush hour traffic here in LA, but I will be honest, I don’t know how much I’d use FSD in its current iteration because of how much you’d have to be paying ultra close attention. I know someone who got invited to the Beta and stopped using it because it was freaking him out lol.

12k is also a lot — I got FSD when it was 7k and I thought that was expensive for how far out it seemed to be useable. It might actually be a good thing if you have to wait a long time to get yours delivered though, cause it gives you a better shot of getting HW 4.0. Idk if that’ll be here this year though

    Thanks for the insight dude.

Someone online mentioned that they may replace the FSD chip instead of just upgrading the current features

@0 need your insight, you f***ing with FSD?

I'm not sure about the intricacies about hardware upgrades but I've always assumed they do free upgrades as they have in the past, not to mention the hardware now should be fine for the future

I've always heard that FSD is NOT worth the sticker price

This is because it's not technically live yet

You can just save the $12,000 payment and then once actual software for FSD goes live you could theoretically just press a button in your car to update the software

Personally, I wouldn't be spending that extra money on the FSD option unless you do not care about the money in any way

Otherwise you get 90% of the features right now and have no downside / can upgrade whenever the actual FSD launches

Better to spend that extra $10k on something useful than just donating it to Tesla's bank account

This is so dumb, but my delivery is tomorrow and I got really emotional driving home from the office
I just started thinking about how like 3-4 years ago I was starting college with like $300 to my name. I used to dream of owning a model 3 and it was all I’d talk about for a bit. Throughout the past few years, my mom would pass the “rich” neighborhoods and text me pics when she’d see one and say “that’s gonna be you someday”

Every time I’d pull all nighters studying, or when I felt like giving up, this is one of the goals that kept me going

I remember watching the Model 3 reveal in 2016 thinking “man, I’ll probably never be able to get one”

And then I finally did in 2020, and then the car actually lived up to the hype

    Man.

Any of y'all think other evs in the market can compete with Tesla in any capacity aside from branding and luxury feeling?

I've seen plenty of valid criticisms on production quality on some delivered vehicles and just 100% praising on some cars from Tesla

I'm thinking of working towards a model 3 tbh

    No one, ATM.

Porsche is a close 2nd with the Taycan Turbo, amazing car, but it suffers with its terrible EV technology, range, and winter performance.

    It also starts at $150,000…

The Mustang Mach E is still a Ford. Their interior quality & winter performance is god awful too.

If you were to buy my car today, its almost $8,000 more expensive than when I bought it

Not including the $5,000 rebate from the State of NJ I got it with

Rivian has a lot of money in the bank, their destiny is up to them

Lucid might fill the luxury EV niche, seems less competent than Rivian though

A couple Chinese players will scale like the Japanese did in the previous generation

A couple of the older players like VW or Ford or Toyota will obviously survive because governments won't let them fail - pensions etc.

Tesla is basically turning into / already is the Apple of this space because of how many actual EVs they're producing, so competition has a long road ahead

Speaking of Apple - they have always been rumored to release a car

I don't see how Tesla doesn't capture a majority of the profits in this industry, much like they have since inception

Really? I've seen a whole bunch of twitter posts and youtube videos of some people complain about the gaps and assembly in their cars.

Now maybe that's just a bias since most people don't look close to their cars in the first place

That's me being someone who was never interested in cars in the first place lol

Damn good looks, this is one of the most thorough Tesla Youtubers I've seen

    A) I feel super bad for people looking to get a Tesla rn, at these current prices. Personally, I could probably no longer afford it. (For many reasons) I hope Covid ends asap, and the supply chain issues end asap to bring down prices. I remember thinking last year that it seemed inevitable that we'd see the rumored "economy" hatchback Tesla that they were trying to create before 2025. But at this point given the supply chain problems they have and how they're still behind on the CyberTruck, it's looking more like that won't come until the end of this decade.

    B) Please don't let me have just gotten my hopes up about HW4 coming to all people that purchased FSD for nothing

Got the Hybrid Jeep Wrangler which has been my intro to Electric vehicles. Funny, had a Tesla owner parked right next to me as I was charging my car and told me "I'm not going to lie, I thought you were an a****** for parking there until I saw that your car was charging lol"

But I'm kind of hooked on EV's now, my next car will 100% be a Tesla. Going through the thread now to learn lol

I've really enjoyed how cost efficient this has been gas wise, so I can only imagine how even more so it is with Tesla. Can't wait!
