My e46 m3. One of my dream cars that I will probably keep forever. Love the car

I just sold mine not too long ago. Unfortunately when I bought it from a private seller they didn’t take the best care of it. My girl and I are trying to move so I had to downsize. I loved that thing tho

It’s an expensive car to maintain. Owned it for 3 years now and I’ve spent a small fortune addressing the subframe and replacing the rod bearings. Next on the list is the VANOS and undersealing it.

The only thing I’d replace it with is a gt3 but that ain’t happening anytime soon.

Yeah that’s what got me. I went to it blindly and spent around $3k off the rip fixing some pressing issues but it was still nowhere near what I knew it could be. Driving the thing tho all of that went out of the window it’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had driving a car

Facts bro! That car just reminds me of my early 20s going out having fun and taking some birds for rides id recommend it to anyone at that age. Not dangerously fast but has some getup, stylish, reliable, and affordable

yeah perfect entry level car and value for the price is really solid. i feel like its the only car even near that price range where you have people asking every day what car it is

This is what I drive currently. 2013 Mazda 3 Skyactiv.
Bought it used in September for 6500 with 107k miles and I love it so far, I get damn near 45mpg highway and 30 in the city. Got lots of plans for it in the future.

Its been expensive. E46s have a few common problems like cracking subframe, spinning rod bearings, head gaskets, vanos rattles and SMG pumps which all need to be addressed. I’ve spent a small fortune on it so far and it’s only going to increase as it gets older. Mines manual so I don’t need to worry about SMG issues. Normal servicing cost a little more than usual.

E46s are insanely reliable and easy to fix in my opinion, i had an 04 330ci for 7 years and had little to no issues with it

Does the E46/ZHP suffer from the same subframe and rod bearing issues as the M3 though? Or is it limited to failing window regulators and misc. issues?

It does yeah, just make sure you check the subframe before buying one

My 330ci had like 175k miles when i sold it, it had some subframe rust but no rotting. Some get it worse than others

Really my only issues with that car were minor oil leaks due to age, and the starter failed on me once
