It was declared a classic before it even dropped
Cole was also declared the next savior of rap before his debut dropped but once he dropped that weed plate of an album it left a clear opening in rap that Kendrick was able to fill. Completely took Cole's lunch and Cole's ego could never really recover from that
FHD killed all the sleep jokes so no
??? This feels like revisionism cause I remember people still making sleep jokes
He followed FHD up with some very sleepy albums

Nah I'm saying for that moment people sat up like
Even leading up to the roll out, the jokes were still going on with Cole playing the album at fans houses and one of the pics had a boy passed out. But the album was pretty much well received when it came out
they all 3 got at least 2 classic projects. Kendrick 3, Drake 3, Cole 2. Personally think Dot has 4, and Drake can get a 4th, and Cole can get a 3rd too, but those are more “personal” classic and can be argued as not classic
Kendrick - GKMC, TPAB, DAMN (Morale/gnx)
Drake - Take Care, NWTS, IYRTITL (Views/SFG)
Cole - FNL, 2014FHD (Born Sinner/The Off-Season)

Personally I think 2014 FHD is Cole's most well received album is because it's the only album of his where he relinquished producing the whole thing himself. If you look at the production credits on his albums his best songs are the ones where he isn't producing them himself (in my opinion)
It's a pretty good album with a couple eh songs to me (Wet Dreamz, Hello, Apparently)
I just feel like if we're gonna call this a classic we need to have a tier list of "classics" because this is a B-tier classic compared to an S-tier classic like GKMC
if anyone dont agree SFG is a top 10 tape of all time yall legit delusional shaped a whole new generation of artists
Take Care is a MEGA classic , one of the best albums ever
How long do we have to keep making threads about this s*** though

I agree on the production aspect and maybe an additional take is that Cole, as successful as his career has been, is pretty limited as a producer imo
FHD was legacy defining for him but I'll have to think about where it falls in comparison to Drake's output and Kendrick's

Completely agreed and I don't think it's a knock against Cole, maybe over ambitious is what it is, but I don't think any single human could handle it all unless they expect to take a very very long time on the album.
Handling writing, production, and mixing is just gonna burn your creative drive out and from my personal experience is just going to weaken one of the areas.
Having 2 elites at each of their craft like Gibbs and Alchemist or DOOM and Madlib will usually yield better results. Unless you're like Kanye who has an army of people / artists at his disposal for his vision, which I'm guessing Cole doesn't have

This song will go down in the pantheon of ultimate coworker classics
(I'm just kidding I really like this song)
