Jcole, Drake , and Kendrick are the problem. They doing a terrible at their gatekeepin duties.

You suppose to son these young new rappers and make them perfect their craft whether that’s thru mentoring, dissing till it makes them step up, or even blocking them on the charts.

The rap game veterans just ain’t about s***. No offense to their music but they lack leadership qualities like the past generations.

Way to easy for thes new tiktok kids to get number ones. The old veterans even from other genres made drake wait forever to get a number 1. Now you get one as soon as you 3 songs in. Sad s***

    Kota The Friend
    Westside Boogie

Gonna have to get hip to Deante and KOTA. I used to bump Saba on the daily, if they sound anything like him I’m sure I’ll love it

    Boogies super underrated too

Kendrick shouldn’t be in this. He is doing a great job of mentoring Baby Keem. Cole and Drake tho

carti and thug only mainstream rappers i put on a pedestal.

every other major artist a thug clone, good but not captivating, or doesn’t speak to me.

but the “underground” is 100% alive and great. navy blue released my favorite project last year. mike got classics and ion even think he 20. f*** with piink sifu heavy.

earl tbh in my top 10 based off his longetivity and especially his recent output.

the music and artists f*** with are doing great. feel like ppl only hold this opinion if they aren’t interested in finding great artists.

    SEVEN CAR GARAGE

Not to sound dusty but who tf is actually good anymore

    Xxx dead
    Ynw locked up
    Juicewrld dead
    Peep dead

All the diverse interesting GOATS in the making
    Who tf we got left???

This equivalent to if Wayne, Ye, T.i were gunned down in they primes just consider the absolute loss and gap they would left in the genre same thing happening rn

Lil baby killing s*** but mans just missing something
Lil Durk same deal mans got hitz but what else?
We still waiting for Uzi drop his magnum opus
    And carti still working

But who got that it factor like the v above names thats coming up pls ennlightening me

I get exactly what OP is saying but the truth is it's the uniqueness of the art that's not prevailing

Like the name you mentioned, Wayne, his format and foundation has become the core curriculum that most artists follow today and it's become beyond dull.

    Gucci > Waka > Chief > Today's Sound
    Jay > Ye > Wayne > Drake > Thug & Future > Today's Sound
    Pac > Boosie > Lil Phat > Today's Sound

of course with more children to detail the sound but the foundation of these artists sound still prevail without question

And It's become so cookie cutter and over done that the IT factor is non existent. Of course we all enjoy the progression of the artist in the NOW of these styles but it's becoming so recycled that it's hard to bear at times. Especially without the inspirations being used correctly to create originality in the ART progressing the style & music to new heights and levels thus giving you a IT factor.

Ye has an IT factor but everyone knows his flow was always sounding like Mase but he still managed to become more.

The trend is to be popping regardless of any type of artistic integrity or anything and that's the greatest detriment to this state of rap now. But like a balloon, the lost of air after the pop has to be taken else where.

What is Lil Baby missing exactly

he’s missing something that makes him stand out like a true GOAT.

he is killing s*** no doubt
    and is lyrically so talented

but he sounds the same, on everything.

he doesnt have like a cackle or silly laugh or persona that made wayne feel refreshing on a beat.

it just sounds like another f***ing lil baby verse, with nothing really there to make it standout among the other verses he’s put out.

*daBaby has this same issue btw, but to me daBaby stands out a lil more cuz of the voice and pronounced ad-libs and s***

As much as mainstream rap is trash rn, I don't think gatekeeping is the answer, it's only gonna stifle the genre more if anything. Also we're in a "fast food" era, everything comes and goes in a week and people have short attention spans, so the average listener is not gonna listen to a 5 minute song full of bars unless it's from a huge artist like Drake.

I just said this in another thread but 2019 not being good for music was the final straw for this place. Ktt2 was created and immediately the go-to thread was to whine about the state of modern music. Then for god knows what reason said boomers strong armed the admins into closing registration so their echo chamber wouldn’t be affected. Heavily influenced the culture of the site in a bad way. 2020 came and music started getting better but people on here pretended it didn’t
