so one of my friends got early onset schizophrenia from smoking weed. he had a pyschotic episode in which he thought god wanted him to go blind, so ended up aiming a pellet gun into his eye socket and shooting. the pellet severed his optic nerve and rendered him fully blind. he was institutionalized for several years after but they eventually let him out.

now he's late 20's and lives with his mom. he has some people who help him to do basic s*** but his life is very restricted in terms of what he can do. for example, he can't drive obviously, so he can't go anywhere by himself, and he can't do most games and fun s*** that people do

i talk with him fairly regularly and he has expressed how lonely he is. he has told me he wants and girlfriend and has never had one. i feel really bad for him, but i don't know what i can do. even going and hanging out with him is kind difficult cause i cant bring him anywhere without one his caretakers

i want to somehow help him to be happier and im worried about his situation honestly.

what would you do in this scenario?

oh damn, maybe try to get him on a blind dating app? I'm sure they got something for people with disabilities like that. Other than that, you should just be a good friend and be his soundboard. Really not much else you can do.

There's definitely communities out there for individuals in his situation. I'd suggest you do a little research on them to see how you can help him + discover ways he can begin to expand and do more.
