1044 So now that it’s confirmed it was Luffy’s fruit. How Oda explains the WG having an issue about it now when Luffy has been a notorious pirate for 2 years is interesting.
This why Shanks didn't show up last year like Oda was saying, needed to get to this point at least
Man on his
behind the scenes
Also that Hiyori panel was FIRE
One of my favorite parts of the chapter, might be my favorite single panel
The difference in reactions between Law and Kidd is hilarious
Kidd like wtf going on
Law is like
He been prepared for how ridiculous this mf is in every way and how that only keeps going up for a while 😭

not embedding, but you'll see it
Didn't think that was Robin's actually awakening...hope we get that at some point cause there's some crazy potential there
Insane chapter. That panel of Luffy's arm extending through the hole in the roof and grabbing Kaido
I'm really happy this isn't a Cavendish/Hakuba situation and that Luffy is still himself. I didn't think Oda was going to do that but I saw a lot of theories about Joyboy "taking over" Luffy's body. I can't wait to see what wild abilities Oda gives Luffy in this new form.
I'm also super interested in seeing how Luffy learns the true nature of his fruit. Maybe Shanks shows up on Wano in the next act? I'm not sure if Momo or Yamato fully understand the significance of Joyboy enough to fully explain it to him even though they've read Oden's journal.
Beating the reincarnation allegations and getting more DF lore/inherited will stuff instead
What you thinking
If the world government knew about the true nature of the fruit, why not kill Luffy a long time ago? Why not send the three admirals right away?
Kinda crazy luffy awakens and we still haven’t met vegapunk
Plenty more stuff to be excited about finally seeing 1000 chapters deep

Yeah agree, seems kinda like an asspull.
But it's still crazy and amazing to see, so I don't complain lol

because shanks just told them

I disagree because I think it highlights one of my favorite parts of the story (the push and pull between major powers and players in the world) and how much we still don't know about those relationships (in their original construction and how things changed following events like Marineford/WB's passing, the rise of Blackbeard and new pirate age, reverie etc)
Up until a two or three chapters ago the WG/CP0 wanted to leave this to Kaido and Big Mom and didn't get involved directly until their confidence in the desired outcome was shaken
Even in this chapter, in a conversation discussing what might be the most game changing revelation in the story so far they're still thinking about how Kaido might feel about all of this

Imu pulling up on that giant straw and tearing up images of Shirohoshi, Luffy, Blackbeard and Luffy + gorosei bowing to Imu is enough to assume that Imu is old/knows enough to know about the dangers this whole situation would present but with how little we know about that, that's just more complexity to the power dynamics I described above
Everyone's quick to bring up Shanks and that's part of it for sure but I think that's mad reductive and ignores a lot of great storytelling/world building up to this point and how ignorant we still are in this regard
Who's Who gonna wake up, see Sun God Luffy and switch sides lol
because shanks just told them
Told them what? They should have known a long time ago.

they can simply mistake luffy for a normal gomu gomu user before shanks told them that it really the suns god fruit
also from vol40
D: Hey, Odacchi! I got a question! About Devil Fruits!! If Kaku and Kalifa said they wouldn't know what their Devil Fruit were until they ate it, how come Shanks knew what Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Mi was before he ate it?? Tell me! Tell me now!! Pleeeease tell me!!! P.N.
O: Well, I think I'll eventually get to explaining more about Devil Fruits in the main story, but you see, there's a book of Devil Fruits. It has info about all kinds of fruit names and abilities, but few of the fruit can actually be identified by their shape. In the case of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, there was a picture and everything, but for Kaku and Kalifa, they were talking about how they wouldn't know until they had finally eaten the fruit. That was in Volume 40.
that explain that a normal gomugomu which turn the user into a rubber man exist

The best explanation imo is to just assume they thought he’d never get this far and awaken. And when they thought he stood a chance against Kaido they ordered the kill.

Thats dumb writing though, if you know someone has the strongest fruit in the verse, you try to get it when he's the weakest, not when he's strong enough to defeat Doffy, or Katakuri, or fight Kaido.

This makes the most sense

@Renni you feel me?
Hard to say this chapter created plot holes knowing we are missing hella info
Real
@Renni you feel me?
This is also great points as well . The reverie was a big question mark so it’s clear we are ignorant to what’s really happening by design . One piece has always been a mystery series as well . Stuff almost always needs to play out first for us to grasp everything .
