News threads can be insightful and awareness is helpful but if that’s what you want you can get it in the news/news+politics sxn. You can have those discussions there. Even add the sxn on your homepage similar to relationships sxn.

If you’re truly interested in those topics, you should have no issue with actively engaging with them in a sxn made just for that.
