Wait you not trolling?
Like you deadass thought he out acted Ethan, Wagner, and Leo?
I thought Ethan was the best of that group and he carried Blue Moon in a way MBJ didn't have to. I will give MBJ credit for a tour de force double performance and certainly he was really good.
Chalamet acted the Most. Idk if he was the best, but he did a hell of a lot. That last scene is an all-timer for me.
I get that it's foreign language but I don't think the content is any less accessible than Sentimental Value or No Other Choice which were clearly their priorities
I actually would say it's more accessible than Sentimental Value
Not a single win for Marty is lame, watching the world mindlessly jump on the Timmy dog pile has made us all dumber
Nah he deserves all the s*** for his dumbass comments on fellow artists. Glad the Oscar went to MBJ, fully deserved it.
Very happy for OBAA, Jessie, MBJ and PTA, prob the first time in ages I 100% agree with every pick in the major categories

Park Chan-wook is a huge name and there was a lot of hype for Sentimental Value coming off The Worst Person in the World (one of my favorite movies of the 2020s).
Jafar Panahi is a legend and has been making great films for a long time but he's not a household name in the west, though he should be. If they had to allocate a budget, that's probably why.
Powerful
Oh please

I meant with casual audiences that don't really know or care about directors or their lore
I think that if you presented all three films to the average moviegoer they would find It Was Just an Accident to be the second most accessible of the group
Agree with your overall point though and why it made sense for Neon to do what they did. I was hoping Panahi would win something earlier in the season to be able to give a speech and maybe build up some momentum for the film and himself but unfortunately that didn't happen

I find that people who actually watched all of the films are generally in agreement that Hawke was the best of the bunch

So you TRULY believe MBJ was the absolute best actor in that category.
Not just better than Timmy, but the BEST actor out of everyone

Yeah I've described the basic plot of It Was Just an Accident to people and they were immediately interested. It's a gripping story and there's not a lot of dead air.
Sentimental Value was my favorite film of the year, but I appreciated it for many very specific reasons that others wouldn't, like my own relationship with my daughter and my art and how they overlap and complicate each other. I think the film-inside-of-a-film meta commentary that serves as the skeleton of Sentimental Value is brilliant, but casual viewers might not be as engaged.
Idk I find it hard to believe that some people TRULY TRULY believe MBJ was the absolute best in the category.
I think a lot was more so annoyed by Timmy and wanted to see him lose rather than actually believing “MBJ acting better than everyone else named”.
And the fact im hearing some haven’t even seen all the movies yet are giving a definitive opinion??? Like some of yall really only viewed this as MBJ VS TIMMY

I loved Sentimental Value as well (Trier really works on me and Renate Reinsve is my favorite working actress at the moment) but yeah I don't think I would recommend it to my friends that aren't film buffs. Not only would they likely find it difficult to get through, but it also probably wouldn't affect them much anyway
Really glad it didn't go home empty-handed tonight (even if Trier still isn't technically an Oscar winner, which is a lame technicality)

"Renate Reinsve is my favorite working actress at the moment"
I feel the same way. Her performances with Trier are consistently superb, as well as in A Different Man.

This is my whole issue with the discourse surrounding this race. It totally devolved into an MBJ (and by extension Sinners) vs Timmy stan war when neither guy was truly deserving of the award
I'm also getting really sick of people saying "Timmy lost because of those comments" when that couldn't be further from the truth. The comments made the rounds after Oscar voting was already closed and after MBJ had already won best actor at the Actor Awards which clearly signaled a momentum shift as that voting body is largely viewed as more predictive than the Critics' Choice and Golden Globes. Marty Supreme also got blanked which shows that it wasn't nearly as strong as its supporters were making it out to be (I think this was obvious when it missed out on score and when Elle Fanning got into supporting actress over Odessa A'zion)
I don't want to rag on MBJ too much because I really like him and I did like his performance, I just don't think it was worthy of a Best Actor win especially in this field which, to me, is arguably the most stacked of the last decade
Also on a completely unrelated note, I'd like to make it clear that I am not at all optimistic about the telecast moving to YouTube but I'm holding out hope that they can figure out a way to let people give their speeches without cutting their mics.
It really rubs me the wrong way that they reserve so much time for stupid sketches and bits and that below-the-line craftspeople get their mics cut during the greatest moment of their careers as a result.
I fully acknowledge that I am not the average viewer and but I would much prefer to hear from those people than to see low tier Conan O'Brien skits littered throughout the broadcast.
I’m happy for MBJ. He seems like a nice guy. But putting personal biases aside, we really got the best crop of Best Actor in nominees in YEARS (which is a category that the academy tends to fumble) only for them to give it to the performance that was simply “good”, when the other 4 delivered absolute knockout performances.
I mean don’t get me wrong he’s certainly not the worst best actor winner of the last 10 years. But to give it to the obviously weaker performance? C’mon man (and for the record I wasn’t riding for Timmy either)
Also if I’m keeping it a buck, MBJ feels like a “one and done” type deal. He is talented but I just don’t think he has enough range as an actor to become a multiple time Oscar nominee
Genuinely feel like this was the best possible result all around
PTA finally gets his well deserved flowers in what will probably be the only film he goes on to make that has the clout to get them
MBJ finally gets his flowers in the best way possible, and that film takes the awards it genuinely should have won
Timothy gets humbled

The only thing I will say is that there is always a really annoying section of fans when an actor plays more than one character in a film
"Omg you don't understand... he plays TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE"
Like don't actors play different f***ing people in every film?
It winds me up because it's a cop out, like it doesn't automatically make the acting better
That being said MBJ was great in Sinners
