And then his lip quivers at the end when seeing his potential child with the woman he s*** on for the whole film and we’re supposed to think ‘wow. Oscar worthy performance right there.’ Meh. Like I get it. They’re both s***ty human beings and kind of meant for each other in the end but it didn’t move me. Worst safdie movie next to smashing machine imo.

Fair fair, I still am not entirely sure how I feel about the ending but think Timmy's performance up to there, especially the penultimate scene, is what sells me on it so heavily.

A few weeks ago online (and even in this thread) if you criticized Sinners at all, you had people implying you were outright racist for doing so. Follow that up with the BAFTAs fiasco and that does a looooot to make people over correct.

Sinners is an amazing movie and one of my favorites of the year. Most of the awards it'll win will be well deserved. But that movie is too good to have almost all of its discourse and recognition be reduced down to "if you don't vote for _, it's because of your racial bias".

People keep talking about MBJ playing two roles as the main reason for him to win an Oscar and, in doing so, they reduce his excellent performance down to something trivial rather than actually talk about how good he is in the movie.
