3 years out and YouTube for better or worse will get more viewership than ABC especially globally

The Oscars being on YouTube is really good. What’s wrong with the show being free and accessible?

This is also fixing what people were complaining about with Cruise accepting an honorary Oscar in an event that wasn't broadcast

They got the whole package including Governors awards, which will now just be broadcast for free. None of these things have been unified before. All ABC had was the ceremony

This makes sense imo. Most people don’t have cable nowadays, and now you can watch it without a subscription to a streaming service or having to find some sketchy link online to watch it

And I know that having a film awards show on YouTube does sound strange, but I like that it will be more accessible now. Viewership ratings will likely get a huge increase

SAG nominations were just announced, obviously not worth making a full thread but some notes:

Sentimental Value got nothing.

Odessa A’zion got in.

Sinners got two supporting noms (+ MBJ obviously)

OBAA got 5 including Chase Infiniti which some thought wouldn’t happen at SAG.

Both Plemons and Emma Stone got in.

SAG famously does not nominate actors from non-English films (except for Emilia Perez for some reason)

Sentimental Value not getting any noms means nothing in the grand scheme of things

I would normally agree but a full shutout is still surprising. EP and SV both bare a reputation for being “American-adjacent” non-English films, largely a reason why EP fared pretty well at SAG last year.

Nobody expected all four nominations, or for it to get ensemble, but nothing could be something.

Edit: Minari is a good recent example of this as well.
