“A statement by the Academy instead implies that, based on time and other considerations, a committee decided that Perry didn’t make the cut.”

It's nice to know you can be in a best picture nominated film and the academy can still basically s*** on your career

    RIP Luke Perry

The In Memoriam section was flying by at like a mile a second and they really couldn't fit him in anywhere but they can include people who died a few days prior

In response to the Hollywood downturn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is considering rule changes for qualification. Typically, a film must have a minimum seven-day theatrical run in a Los Angeles theater to qualify for the Oscars. But with hordes of films being re-routed to video-on-demand and other at-home platforms, that may need to change temporarily.

Late March, or April? When it comes to changing the February 28 date for the 2021 Oscars, the question is no longer if, but when. That will be determined at the Academy Board of Governors’ Zoom meeting on Thursday, June 11

Agents allowed to vote at future Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors voted on Sunday to reclassify the membership status of Artists’ Representatives and now will allow them to vote like other active members. Previously they were Associates without those privileges.

    -

This has been a goal of agents for decades, and many attempts have been made in the past to get them a vote. There was strong opposition over the years from some members of the Academy who felt it was a profession not integrally involved in the actual making of motion pictures. But many in the profession have pointed to the fact that agents and agencies are intimately involved in making movies happen, particularly in getting them off the ground in the first place. Many have been involved in leading the charge and now it is finally coming to fruition.
