I don't have the time to watch a lot of new films so I skip most of the things I know I won't like. Both of them I saw because of the hype sorrounding it (I don't like Ostlund's films but gave him another chance because of the palm d'or)

From the nominees I liked The Fabelmans and TAR and I still haven't watched Avatar and the german film

if time is important to you don't watch the german film!

the acting noms this year are frankly embarrassing. 2 movies with 4 noms each? A supporting nom for a guy who appears for 5 minutes? What a lack of imagination the voters showed, especially when the noms are just heaping praise on the same movies that have swallowed all the attention already. At least we have a break (no doubt, it will be brief) from the Tom Hanks/Meryl Streep show.

And then there's the continued treatment of horror as some anthema, even genre-blenders like Pearl, Northman, and Nope failed to generate any refreshing nods. And no women nominated for direction or original screenplay, when Aftersun, one of the year's most acclaimed pictures, was right there?

I find it hard to be excited by much of anything here, except perhaps the documentary and shorts in general. At least the best picture grouping seems to have mostly films I wouldn't mind winning compared to the usually yawners

German film is worth the watch if you are talking about all quiet on the western front (and enjoy stuff like 1917)

I don’t understand why horror continues to get ignored by the Academy. Even the artsy horror movies like Hereditary have been completely snubbed
