I walked away from it going “that was one of the best big movies of the year”, all of what I said in my post is why I felt like that and why a lot of people feel like it’s special as you’ve observed. It’s a part of the fun itself

Banshees did pretty bad too. As the article says, the market for the adult, prestige movie was absolutely dire this year

But I’m not sure if they’ll start looking to marvel. In terms of blockbuster genre stuff, I think movies like mad max, top gun maverick and avatar are the bench mark.

Can’t really see a marvel film working to the same strengths those movies do (extremely high end special effects achievements, embracing sincerity & crowd pleasing formulas rather than irony and sarcasm)

Maybe secret wars best pic nom + technical awards for a ‘recognition’ type nod for concluding a big saga

But besides that I can’t see any single upcoming marvel movie really being as solidly made or being embraced by people the way top gun or avatar were

Yeah I guess the standards may "lower" to where those type of blockbusters that are already being invited in some capacity just get a realer chance. It'll have to be a pretty big leap from prestige flicks eating to Marvel movies having a seat at the table for the big money awards
