I’ve been missing that feeling for so many years. 2008-2013 were crazy anticipating new single premieres and albums to drop because of all the surprises and expectations. GOOD Fridays had me waiting all night and through the morning until Ye dropped 😂

Easy to funnel an entire audience towards an event when there isnt a platform that lets the entirety of music available for 19.99 sap the attention of said audience

"WTT" is still legendary but it's just meh.

Joint's like "Primetime", "The Joy", "Otis", "Murder To Excellence" etc. were what I expected going into the album back in the day.
But like you pointed out, it was too electronic heavy & didn't mesh well with Jay as an MC whatsoever.
Let's not even talk about "Lift Off"

The problem was that electronic dubstep s*** was a literal plague in that era
too many people did NOT know how to mix it with hip hop for way too long
I think the james blake/sbtrkt 'post' dubstep thing didnt even take off till at least 2013 or 14 which ended up helping (although JB ST was earlier, just unknown, and still removed from hip hop). I think flume helped move the modern styles into rap a lot, and disclosure in a weird way
then waka tried to backtrack to the s***ty dubstep implementation for like half a decade
