Hi guys Americana here. We are on day 8 of our divestment encampment here at UC Santa Cruz, and we have had a lot. An interview I’ve done with a local station has been broadcast on NPR, and we’ve received attention from the New York Times! Our SJP organizers are hard at work at the negotiations with the administration
In regards to redveil, he was scheduled to do a show at our quarry amphitheater on May 10 as part of the school’s annual music event. Redveil is expressively pro-Palestine, we saw it at CFG. The school was the first one in his career to specifically include a contract clause that prevented him from being pro-Palestine. He said F*** that and they let him plan to perform anyways.
Yesterday, the university cancelled the concert and refunded it to students. That is because to enter the venue, you had to walk directly through a pro-Palestine encampment. This is terrible for the university’s optics. In response, redveil once again said F*** THAT. He came to our camp organizers and asked to join in on our rally today. He performed for a long time and gave a passionate speech about how we must meet our divestment goals. The event was amazing and turnout was amazing
