Thoughts on the Arcteryx Granville 16 backpack ? I'm more after the Arro but this popped up new for 90 and seems like a great backpack as well.

It looks nice but 16L isn’t much space... if you don’t need to carry much it’ll probably do. I have an Arro, it’s about five years old, but I really don’t like it, there’s no room in it and the materials are inflexible. There’s no additional storage compartments inside either, i think they may have changed that on thenewer models though.
will Salomon xt 4s get torn up by salt in Canadian winter
Yes, I have some Salomon’s I bought for running in the winter and they were savaged after only a few months

Thanks and Interesting on the Arro storage and flexibility. This is 16 but it has good internal compartments for an everyday to daypack. It also seems more flexible than the Arro while still retaining good water resistance. I just want to use it as a daily pack and for short hikes

Go for it tbh, seems like a good deal

I have a pretty recent Arro 22, still got the same problem with internal organization. There's a pocket for the water bladder but not much else

Work out what brands you like first imo, look at functionality over looks

I liked arcteryx “we don’t care about being cool, we care about performance” stance on them becoming popular in fashion. but collabing with Jill sanders and now palace just doesn’t sit right

I'm actually with you on this. Normally I wouldn't really care about a brand doing this, but they told Hypebeast they didn't want to pivot into the streetwear world because they want to be authentic like 9 months ago. I get capitalizing on the current outdoor gear hype, but a Palace collab feels like a decent glimpse into the future of the brand's direction
I know Taka turned down a Jil Sander x Veilance collab in the past, but I really wish they're going with it for their womenswear instead of just Arcteryx. Veilance and JS would make so much more sense as a whole versus what could potentially just be more shells and bags. I'm curious as to see what's going to come of these collabs regardless though.

definitely makes it seem like they do "care about being cool", but as long as they keep the quality high I dont have an issue with it

That’s just marketing BS, obviously they care about being cool. But don’t overblow the scale of these collabs. Especially the Palace one it’ll probably be a shell and a bag like the BEAMS collabs.
Being cool pays the bills and allows for more money for more innovation
There’s been so many collabs and gonna be more with all these outdoor brands becoming hot anyways I cant be mad. Would just like to see what these brands can actually come up with that isn’t just another shell or bag

It was also their most popular shell and most popular bag pieced up at an even higher price point. Outdoorswear is hot now, but after the focus moves elsewhere they’ll still make the beta AR and everything else. Arcteryx was overrun by tech and finance people before they did a Jil sander collab and the ethos is still intact 🤷‍♂️
