I picked up the Tjalve 10L last fall for day trips, and the Glitner 40L for hauling gear. Really love both, they're very purpose oriented packs but I find myself pulling them out for a lot of weekly use as well.
wow that Tjalve is sick.. I hadn't looked at their bags, they got some nice stuff though. I find most purpose-built hiking bags end making good daypacks if you can navigate their quirks.

Definitely with you, prefer to work with the idiosyncrasies hiking bags as much as poss instead sinking more money into a pack for each and every need.
