So the official story is that the actor who plays JJ (Rudy Pankow) and the actress who plays Kiara (Madison Bailey) were very good friends on set. Fans of the show, which is largely made up of stantwt users started shipping the characters AND the actors together. They were both in real relationships at the time (still are) and the shipping made both of them uncomfortable, so they kinda sorta just distanced themselves from each other and their friendship sizzled out.

Now like I said, that's the official story, but nobody believes it. That wouldn't constitute not wanting to share scenes together, that wouldn't lead to (SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4) Rudy Pankow literally asking them to kill his character off because he couldn't be in that environment anymore. I mean hell, Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline used to date in real life, they've since broken up but have been able to carry on with the show and the relationship between the two characters.

Nobody knows what actually happened, but given the intense fallout, there's obvious and targeted speculation. There is said to be real bad blood between Rudy's girlfriend and Madison's girlfriend that may stem from the fans shipping them together, and that could be true, but a lot of people don't believe that to be the full story especially given that Rudy has distanced himself from the show entirely in recent months.

That’s crazy amount of off screen drama for a teen fodder Netflix show lol I wonder if that’s why they’re now looking for spin off shows set in the universe
