And the few that do generally last about 3 years. Very few have actual longevity. And no, Joe Budden did not do no fkin numbers. Yes back then everyone had bars because that was the era. Which is also my point. DMX being top dog back then was tougher because of what he had to overcome. Not to mention you had to be local and underground and build your own fanbase. Blogs and social media help artists blow up now. The internet is pervasive. Wasn't back then. Even rap forums back then were minimal at best.
Pretty sure his debut still did like 500K which is still higher than most out today even with the music being more accessible than ever.

I respect the guy fully, like a lot of his music, but I feel like there's way more people that can put their soul on the track much better.
It's because a lot of his older introspective songs used to actually have depth
