I haven't been to a general doctor in a decade. Its just general fear and the fact that I've been fine health wise but it's time to get checked up cause you never know what might be going on inside you.

My fears are finding out something is wrong with me or being judged for my current lifestyle.

    How do I overcome this?

lmao the general doctor will never tell you something seriously wrong with you, you’d need to give blood or something for them to know that. but in my experience my doctor has put me through the very standard check up which, even if you have something serious boiling under the surface, you’ll be seen as A Okay

  • Don’t go to the doctor for 5 years of 1 million dollars?

op after he is too afraid to go to the doctor and dies of an easily treatable yet undetected issue

YOU have to tell the doctor something wrong for them to really probe your body like that

Then what's the point of a general check up then?

Then what's the point of a general check up then?

idk i go to get things like my man parts checked on and make sure my blood pressure and the basic metrics are in order. i also do give blood samples so they can make sure that all checks out so. it’s just reassuring to me, even if the checkup itself may not be the most thorough

My fears are finding out something is wrong with me

Versus the fear of living with an ailment or disease you COULDVE prevented if you just went?

being judged for my current lifestyle.

Nobody cares enough about you (not personal) to judge you. Noone will remember but you, so just f*** it

get $10,000 for going to the doctor or you pay $2k not to

  • The more information you get from them the better your entire life will be. If you have been paying for health insurance for 10 years and not going then that is kind of not effective use of money. If you have insurance do bloodwork that is covered by your insurance plan, a physical and routine check up being honest about eating, exercise habits as well as any irregularities in health. You get peace of mind this way. Rather than webmd or any bullshit you will know.

You rather figure out something is wrong while you have coverage than not. If something is wrong the only way to possibly know and get it back on track is to go

i get you hospitals suck. go on tinder and look for doctors, ask them out for dates, after some succesful dates and you both close ask them if they can recommend a colleague for a check up bc you dont want a person you are close with to do it bc there could be bias. at that point you already comfortable around a doctor person, everything works out

I agree with this, modern medicine is just not preventative. Even if you suspect something is wrong most doctors are not going to take it seriously and do every test needed. For the most part you need to be already seriously ill for them to actually find what’s wrong with you. Having a yearly general blood test is good tho, so at least you know you are at least probably in good general health

  • Jan 4, 2023

Go get a yearly physical. Just look it up on zocdoc and pick a doctor you like. They will do blood work and make sure thats all good. I just did this recently as I hadn’t been to the doctor in a long ass time/never transitioned from my pediatrician.

You never know, you could have a vitamin d deficiency (which f***s you in all sorts of ways), high cholesterol, thyroid issues, and you’d have no way of knowing. Really the blood work is what it’s all about but I recommend doing the physical and building a relationship with a GP as you’ll just feel more comfortable. If you got insurance def just make sure wherever you go takes your insurance, you can enter in your insurance on zocdoc too.
