just saw this and discussions around this movie are hilarious someone was calling it the worst movie of all time
the plot was convoluted, movie made no sense, slow, supernatural twist sucks etc but i dont agree with any of this.
i thought the movie was very creepy, very eerie, fantastic atmosphere. the build-up is slow, and great, but the two major issues with the film imo are theres not really any payoff for all that atmosphere and build up, theres no single scene which all that tension bursts forth with a great scare. the scare scenes themselves are underwhelming.
the second major issue is as someone else pointed out "nothing in the police investagion advanced the plot or led to anything. visiting the mental hospital gave nothing. transcribing the letters revealed nothign. the crime scenes yielded nothing." this can work but in this case the entire investigation feels like a prop, like filler and unfortunately a lot of the film feels like this, cool but ultimately revealed as shallow
i dont have any issue as many others did with the supernatural ending, it was hinted at quite often in the film, and it doesnt takeaway from the horror, ironically I think a lot of people given secularism, just dont understand or cant relate to something supernatural deciding things, it takes them out of the story completely.
also theres like 0 white men in this movie
