Zeppelin could have done what Sabbath did but Sabbath could never do a Rain Song or Kashmir

having said that id still probably take Sabbath's 1970s run over Zeppelins

agree that its only zep who can do the Levee or Kashmir, their 'progressive' albums after the tetralogy were out threre. but their early music is a lot of times flavorless (some iconic songs in there for sure though) and now sounds too rudimentary, unlike sabbath who not only added their own flavor to blues influences but also made it sound timeless

it's like with most genres of music you can see the evolution of the sound from band to band where as sabbath pretty much came out of the gate with that metal sound (the first album has some bluesier cuts like the wizard) and then proceeded to develop it until we get to Sabotage/Never Say Die//Technical Ectasy where they started playing more of the straight-forward conventional rock 'n' roll music of the time.

a ton of blues on sabbaths s/t but then Ward's jazz drumming on top of it all

For now, just peep the self titled, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol 4, Sabotage, and then jump straight to Heaven and Hell.

check out that pretty things song I just posted. came out two years before sabbath.

that riff instantly reminds me of pinball wizard by the who.. but the rest definitely reminds me of sabbath

  • CRACKASTEPPAVEGAN

Even their eponymous debut had the conventions of late 60s rock, but then you have some real heavy s*** like the title track and NIB

Bass solo at the beginning into that riff is so o*****ic man haha

Ozzy and Sharon also cosplayed as Ye and Bianca for Halloween last year.

I think the sample thing was over money.

I remember holding the Never Say Die vinyl as a kid, looking at the front and back picture of a pilot sitting in the cockpit. I remember just thinking, 'this is the coldest cover of all time man'

pleasantly surprised to see so much love for never say die of all albums. but its a great one and it grew on me a bit in recent years. I really appreciate how they were trying to do different things in that period even if it didnt always make sense to me
