With the recent indictment of YSL an interesting truth has become apparent in hip hop: rappers can't stop snitching on themselves. The abundance of self-snitching lyrics and even the image that rappers have is a clear tell to the pigs about where when the dissent is occurring and by who.
"If yo' nigga killer ain't dead, you shouldn't wear no R.I.p., shirt"*
Can rappers stop snitching on themselves? Is it a want for fame? A desire not to be recognized for the crime, but to be recognized for getting away with it, a form a narcissism? Or perhaps a simple form of idiocy?
"Rap snitches, telling all their business
Sit in the court and be their own star witness"**
In Dosteyevsky's crime and punishment, Raskolnikov is an impovershed man of lower class living in St Petersberg, who kills a greedy and malevolent pawn broker in order to steal her money and he justifies it by saying that the world will be a better place without her, as she does nothing but exploit people for their money and even abuses her blameless but simple sister for no reason other than for her own convenience and pleasure. In the process of killing the pawn broker, he kills her sister as well, but other than that there are no witnesses and he gets away with it. In the aftermath, he is visited by his sister and their mother and starts getting unwell. He starts covertly revealing that he did the crime to people in his life who have no idea what he did, and he can't stop self-snitching (due either to repressed guilt, or pride in wanting to be acknowledged)
Are rappers today embodying the spirit of Raskolnikov

Hip Hop as the epitome of the total art of americanism, the self perpetuating and recursive shockwaves of Cointerinsurgency, remodeling subjectivity in the image of the market through terror and narcotics, in turn requiring the production of a palliative capable of making life bearable, recurring to musique concrete abstractions and the syncretic mythologies borne out of pulp cinema and comic books, satelital and mimetic structures of media consumption. Jay Z's mimesis of the ancient rockefeller dynasty in turn getting re-upped by instagram hustlers from baltimore to bucharest and bangalore even Farrakhan's NOI functioning as a pipeline managed as part of the covert irrigation works of the office of naval intelligence(aka the church of scientology). Kanye West hasn't read bataille, he doesnt need to. increasingly jarring role of the music commentariat to mediate between whats vital! exciting! and dangerous! and the increasingly standarized protocols of consumer space.

It's been a minute since I read it, but I remember clearly Raskolnikov was suffering tremendously from guilt and that's more than likely what caused him to open up about it. He did try justifying the murder but he saw it more as a necessary evil than as something to be prideful of. That's just how I see it anyways

Well yes Raskolnikov was also clearly a neurotic
C&P's big argument isn't that murder is wrong but that neurotics shouldn't kill people because their guilt will become pathological

I think popular culture should be a***yzed in reference to history, because it does tend to repeat a lot of similar tropes
